Museum Blog

Photobucket
I went to the Cantor museum where i saw many works of art. It was refreshing to go to this museaum and see all the art work because it was something i never do but after going plan on doing more often. I was in awe of all of the paintings and sculptures that it is impossible to pick just one.
but the one i would say really stuck out to me was Assasanation of a famous nut artist by Robert Arneson. though it was a little gruesome and gory i was amazed with all the details from the smoke of the gun, all of the wounds, his facial expressions, and the snot coming out of his nose. I truly respect people who can sculpt let alone add so much detail and realism.

i also enjoyed the Rodin section after reading about it in the textbook it was cool to see it in person.

Woman In A Loge

This painting was painted by Mary Cassett in 1879. The Painting is painted with bright luminous colors and flowing brushwork. The colors show a lightness that make the painting eye catching. The Painting Depicts a woman at the opera elegantly dressed. Behind her the viewer can see the through a mirror the reflection of the back of her as well as other People watching the opera. The woman's face is a face of enjoyment as you can see from the smile on the woman's face. Which is why i like this painting so much. Her smile isn't really big as if to show excitement, but a smile of contentment, comfort, and the joy of just being in the moment. I can relate to this image because it reminds me of times being out with friends and being truly happy.

School of Athens

The "School of Athens" was painted by Raphael in 1511. In this painting it portrays other artist and philosophers of his time during the time period. He painted fellow colleagues such as Plato and Aristotle, who are in the center, and other artist, mathematicians, naturalist, and astronomers, surrounding them discussing theories. In relation to my life the "School Of Athens" reminds me of the Panoramic pictures that i took in high school and middle school, where our whole class would line up to take a photo. and like in the picture where there are separate groups talking and looking in other directions, it reminds me of how groups of Friends would coordinate there outfits for the picture, and in the final photo there are always people who are talking, and not ready for the photo to have been taken. So that's what i see the "School of Athens" as, a class photo where the photographed weren't ready for the picture to be taken.

Art 1B: Blog # 3

In this chapter the piece of art that i found most interesting is the "Primavera" by Sandro Botticelli. I was attracted to this painting mostly because when i was younger i really enjoyed Greek and roman mythology. Venus was my favorite goddess and i believe in Greek mythology is the goddess Aphrodite. In this painting Venus is the goddess of love and and surrounding her are the three Graces, Cupid , the gods Zephyr and Mercury , and the nymph Chloris. Those surrounding her seem to be basking in her essence of love and happiness. Also in the picture Venus wears a wedding reef showing marital love which relates to societies belief in marriage. In relation to my life I've always been a hopeless romantic and loved romance stories, which is most likely the reason why she was my favorite goddess. I feel that people are constantly searching for love, and constantly searching for the kind of love that movies claim to be magic, the kind of love that make us feel like its beyond ourselves.Or at least i am. ;)

Its hard relating the things from the text to something in my life now. The art that i could relate the most to was the "Portrait Of A Lady" by Rogier van der Weyden. This is a Painting of a lady who is sitting down with her hands clasped together. The woman looks to be very proper and constrained. Looking at the picture reminds me of the school photos that i use to take in school where we were posed and had to hold our hands together in the same way she holds hers. I in a way relate to this woman because she like me seems to be introverted in this picture as i can be. She seems to hold in her energy and personality, but because of the way her eyes look and the way she holds her mouth it shows there's more to her. Also making her seem interesting and making you want to know more about her, and break into the her that she holds back.

Hussein Chalayan Spring 2009 Ready to Wear

I love Chalayans spring ready to wear line not because its fashion (which i love ) but because its so artistic and different, and in a way sort of crazy. Chalayan is a connoisseur , who through his line filled with various colors, which he painted on himself, to create flamboyant pieces that lit up the runway and moved the world. Chalayan molded latex and car parts to make the clothes shine and look as if some of the dresses and outfits were literally melting of the models. I found this so innovative. His line reflects my personality because like Chayalayan i like to try and be different and constantly create things that haven't been done , or spin things to create something new with everything i do in life.

Edie Sedgwick by Jerry Schatzberg

I love this picture because its a classical black and white portrait that captured a moment of an American It-girl. This photo is a part of the Iconography from the late 60s. of the famed muse of the artist Andy Warhol. I love how simplistic this picture is from its black and white contrast to its simple single light lighting. This picture is so simple yet so strong and continues to grab praise from Art Patrons. This relates to my personality because I really enjoy black and white Photography, and love to take pictures. Also I love the thought that you can capture real life moments that will never happen again.

Kanye West 808s and Heartbreaks

As of right now Kanye West is my favorite Musical Artist. I love his clever rhymes where he often uses humor and double meanings to express himself and his ideas through his music. His newest album 808s and Heartbreaks is one or my favorite albums of his. Its sort of his Renaissance, and its content is so different from his previous albums in that he usually has lots of humor and talks about the happier things in life. Rather in this album he is talking about heartbreak, loss, and more somber themes, based on the past year's events in his life. Also it differs because in stead of just rapping he is singing using auto tune. Though many critics didn't like it, the singing is a part of West's expressionism showing his feelings towards these serious and gloomy topics. Which is one of the reasons why i love this album so much. West took a big risk, and why doing so he branched out to find new ideas of expressing himself, while also growing as an artist and embracing other types of music. Which reflects my personality in many ways because i to enjoy embracing new ideas of expression, and finding new music. I love that with this album it was a big risk, and i try to take more risk in my life because with out taking risk there is no growth.

My favorite song on the album is Street Lights , its lyrics are so simple yet so very powerful at the same time. The song for me is about being alone and trying to remember the times where you were happy rather then when you were struggling for it, and trying to reach that part of your life where you are truly happy, however its not easy.
